Voltron, lego, and team bonding?
Where do I begin? đ€ Letâs just start with Voltron.
Defender of the Universe
Voltron is this really cool, expensive, and luxurious toy I always dreamed of having as a child growing up watching the TV series but my mom just wouldnât let me have it. Boy did I sound like a spoiled brat? I am! đ Those who know me know I like robots like Transformers, Gundam, Astroboy, etc. So letâs explain Voltron to those who donât know. First of all, there are five robot lions. Five female lions to be exact! đ Each one piloted by a different person. The cool thing is that these five lions transform and connect into one giant awesome đ€robot. In fact, I was so right about Voltron being so đ cool that Netflix released a new series. đ
Voltron itself symbolizes teamwork. You have these very different characters with very different backstories each piloting a lion that connects into a giant robot. Now whatâs challenging is that although youâre connected to one giant robot you are still in your separate cockpits! Voltron makes Power Rangers look like childâs play. In order to pilot Voltron, you have to have this extremely strong bond, connection, and the will to risk everything for the sake of the universe, not just earth cause thatâs lame. Defender of the Universe totally rocks!!!
Lego is a pixel
Lego releases a Voltron kit! I donât know anyone who doesnât love legos and everyone has been exposed to Legos at one point or another. Now hereâs the really geeky part. Legos unlock imaginations. I mean really, thatâs their tagline. Legos if you really think about it are 3D pixels. So what did I do as soon as Lego releases Voltron? I give them my hard-owned cash. No questions asked. Then I set up a meeting with my coworkers.
Team Bonding
I, being so charming, somehow got my team involved in building my Lego Voltron. đ So we booked a conference room for 1 hour. â° We were very ambitious in trying to complete it in one hour. In reality, it was quite complex and took days. We failed to realize some of us have forgotten how legos were like and took longer while some of us who still did legos were faster.
Imagine when another party opens the door for a meeting and sees a team of people frantically picking up legos? Itâs an experience we still talk and laugh about today. đ€Ł
Fun = Innovation
There is a reason why companies build huge adult playgrounds, from indoor climbing walls to gaming rooms. Itâs not only for the happiness of employees. đThe real reason is to increase communication and innovation. Humans naturally have a protective barrier. Having fun opens up this barrier and allows us to move outside our comfort zones. Put it this way, if you were to ask an adult to do something goofy they will feel vulnerable, if you were to ask a kid everything changes. Kids will perform that goofy act without a thought. Only freeing your mind can we move away from our normal mindsets and reach unlimited possibilities. Not every company has the finances to build huge adult playgrounds but it is important to incorporate fun into your workplace.
So there you have it! Voltron, Legos, and team bonding. đ„łBreak the ice. đ§What creative ways have you incorporated fun into your workplace?
